Cruise Days 3 & 4 at sea and Day 5 GIza.
Days 3 & 4 were at sea, and the first day it was up for breakfast, then we went back to bed till lunch, where we got up ate, and did washing and ironing. That night was the first of our two formal nights, starting with cocktails with the captain before dinner. It was fun. We have met a few people on the cruise, most of them have done 3 or four cruises before or some do one a year . The next day we has lunch with a couple who are doing 4 cruises this year, but only usually do 3. There is some serious money on bad this ship.
Today: Well, what can you say, Alexandria is amazing blend of old and new. You will see a photo of a major palace beside the water, t was the first building we saw as we pulled into port.
Then our 3 hour coach ride to Cairo / Giza, to see the Pyramids and Sphinx. You will see the pictures, but they are only that, its pretty had to capture standing there with structures that date back to the times of Joseph, they are massive. It has been great to get a lot background info on all that is Egyptian, and who is buried where. Why the Sphinx is where it is, why some were completed and others weren't, why some are small etc.... the only problem was the hawkers peddling their tourist wares, they are everywhere, persistent, and really rude.
Lunch on the nile was great, what a colossal river. either side of its banks are Cairo one one side and Giza on the other, with little islands dotted in it along the way. I have added in a picture of the belly dancer who entertained us at lunch. THere was a guy as well doing his traditional dancing as well, but most of them I shot on video, which I won't upload. Apparently these were two of the top dancers in the country.
Unfortunately its a really dirty place, especially at the Pyramids, which is such a shame as it is such a beautiful place, and cold be so much more, if they could take some more pride in what they have. In fact they could be giving jobs to all the hawkers to keep them occupied, instead of hassling tourists. Very polluted and hazy skies as well, which didn't make the best for photos or seeing the Pyramids from any distance.
On the way back on the coach, all the oldies fell asleep and snored coughed and spluttered, I just wanted to get off, my goodness somebody shoot me before get that old please..... but we had he most amazing sunset and then full moon rising because of the dust and pollution in the skies, it made it blood red, unfortunately couldn't get a good shot because we were in the coach, oh well maybe better luck at Port Said tomorrow.
Bye for now.
