Switzerland: 24 to 27 November.
Basel: We stayed with Sabine's Brother and family, and had two great days of Swiss Culture. You can stand in 3 countries at once here, as the photo shows France, Germany and Switzerland, worth a shot anyway....You will see a picture of Andy & Rita, who opened their home to us, and looked after us like kings. We went to the Christmas Markets in the town centre, and it was amazing (see Photo). They really go all out, and you eat things that only get made at Christmas time, there were thousands out there, and it was buzzing.
Interlaken: We thought driving down to Interlaken was great scenery, but it was just a taste of what was to come. Sabine's Brother said that if you can only see one place in Switzerland, this is the place, and he was right.
We went up the mountains the first day to Wengen, a ski resort, but ski season doesn't start for a few weeks, so it was deserted, but great views. We would have gone all the way to the top of the alps (Jaung Frau) but it isn't worth it if its not fine, and there was clouds just above us at Wengen. We met two Couples from Aussie while there, it was great to talk Aussie again.
The next morning we woke up and it was clear skies, ad you ca see by the pics, it was amazing all the way we travelled that day. We wound our way through the alps down to the Italian border, we went through one tunnel 17km's long, it certainly saves time. But on the way up from Interlaken, we saw Swiss Air Force F16's fly overhead, but the we saw the base right below us, so we stopped, and the last two were getting ready to take off. So we stopped, got the Binoculars out and they flew ay eye level as they seamed past us ad barrel rolled as they climbed neatly vertical... Amazing, well for me anyway. This is Heidi country.... the most spectacular scenery yet., its like having the green rolling hills of the North Island with the majestic Alps of the South Island, with snow everywhere.....
next... Lake Como.
